The last week or two of viewing
On a whim I got hold of Generation Kill the new HBO series form the same people who made The Wire, telling the story of a platton of marines sent to invade Iraq. Cant quite decide what to make of it. I am quite enjoying it but i cant help feel like i am being secretly brainwashed (as opposed to quite openly and overtly as in The Unit for example). There is character development and stories but it cant help fall foul of the fact the it is a product of the american entertainment industry, and by default incapable of really telling us any real truth about people and conflict etc. Not exactly required veiwing.
Also watched a film about a military AI going “crazy”, killing people, and trying to overthrow the American Government because it was making bad decisions. Quite reasonable if you ask me. Shame its not a true story. Utter crap. Cant even remember what it was called.
Also watched the Red Riding Trilogy. It was pretty grim, stylistically shot, great cast. I thought it was good. But it might well have contributed to me feeling a bit depressed these last few days.
I know theres more but its all just slipped away..
